Font Notes:
No individual entry found for this Downham in the Domesday survey. A baptismal font stands outside the church of St Margaret, in Downham; it appears composite: the basin probably original, but the base is of later date; the basin is octagonal with a chamfered upper rim; the sides are vertical, each decorated with a pair of trefoil arches or windows; the stem and splaying lower base are octagonal and moulded. There is a modern flat cover with Latin cross finial. The font is not mentioned in the RCHM (1931-1934) or Bettley & Pevsner (2007) probably because it is modern.
