Church Notes: the original collegiate church here was started ca. 1187 under Absalon (1128-1201) bishop of Roskilde; the stone church was destroyed by fire in 1314, and re-built in brick in 1388, with the tower added later, only to be destroyed by a fire in 1728, by the British Navy in 1807; the re-building was undertaken in 1829, under architect Christian Frederik Hansen, with Bertel Thorvaldsen in charge of the statuary
