There are three entries for Rochester [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TQ7468/rochester/] [accessed 17 September 2019] one of which reports a church in it. Newman (1980) mentions only a font "dedicated 1893, carved by Earp", which his plan located in the west end of the nave, on the north side of the south aisle, between the last two piers. The web site of Rochester Cathedral [www.kiad.ac.uk/rc/virtual-tour/01.asp], in its description of the north transept of the building, states: "This transept will house a new Baptistry sometime in late 2006/2007". [NB: the original church was built by king Ethelbert in 604; the next church on this site was built by Gundulf (1024?-1108); the next one in the 13th century; etc., but we have no information on the earlier font(s) from those times until the present font]
