Baptismal font consisting of a bucket shaped basin raised on a wider cylindrical base; plain all over except at the upper rim surface where a deep groove divides the surface into two round mouldings; it is in this area where damage can be found, as well as the anchorage holes of the old cover staples. There was an early monastery with a church in this locality; later, in the late 12th century, ca. 1176, a church was built to replace it. There are two factors that put in doubt the Romanesque pedigree of this font: the shallowness of the inner basin well, and the presence of a tiny receptacle probably used for the holy oils of baptism. Both these factors should be considered in dating this font. [We are grateful to Montserrat Estela, of www.romanicat.net, for her photographs of this font]
