Goudhurst

Described in Glynne (1877) : "The font is an octagon, the basin painted and modernised, the pedestal panelled with figures of animals, &c." Noted in Newman (1980): "Font. Modern bowl on a Perp[endicular] base, wit symbols of the Evangelists squashed into the panels." The octagonal base has an octagonal stem, its panels decorated alternately with the four symbols of the Evangelists and rosettes inscribed in trefoil arches; splaying lower end; the octagonal basin is a later replacement of the original, probably of the 19th century, done in the style of the Perpendicular period fonts: eight panels containg large quatrefoil motifs; the underbowl is graded.
