Noted in Hussey (1852) with reference to Hasted (1797). Noted in Newman (1980): "Font. Plain, heptagonal. Possibly Perp[endicular], or possibly of the 1660s." Noted and illustrated in the Roughwood British Churches Album [www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/Kent/Fairfield/FairfieldStThomas2005.htm] [accessed 13 February 2010]: "The font is plain, and a design unique in Kent. The bowl has seven sides, perhaps a reminder of the seven sacrements of the church. It was originally located on the north side of the church, but is now in the centre, underneath the turret." Also notable of this font is the shape of the lower base: it is of a general polygonal shape, but two (?) of its sides removed, or rather, not there, since it appears to be the original shape rather than an alteration. On an octagonal plinth.
