Font Notes:
There is an entry for Elham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TR1743/elham/] [accessed 28 June 2025]; it mentions a church in it. Glynne (1877) notes: "The font is octagonal and cased in wood", but his footnote adds: "The casing was removed and many other improvements made, when the church was restored". Newman (1976) mentions the font cover of ca. 1908-1917 as one of the most characterist items by F.C. Eden, who was responsible for the renovation of this church [during the incumbency of Revd. Alard de Bourbel]; it is quite likely that the circular font was made or re-cut at this time. An illustration of the modern font and cover can be found at [www.digiserve.com/peter/elham-smv1.thm] [accessed 29 July 2006]. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here]
