Church Notes: present church mid-14thC, originally a chapel-of-ease to Ecclesfield Parish Church; restored 1705 with many modifications thereafter
No individual entry found for Midhope / Midhopestones in the Domesday survey. Octagonal [square with chamfered angles] mounted font in dark-grey stone; basin with upper and lower rim mouldings; sides angles, including those of the chamfer marked with piping; round inner well with centre drain, unlined; octagonal stem constrained with moulding about half-way down. [NB: the original church, before the 18th-century restoration, was probably medieval, but we have no information on its font].
