A drawing of this font is reported in The Salopian Shreds and Patches issue for June 9, 1880 (p. 49). Described in Newman & Pevsner (2006). Baptismal font of the Perpendicular period, probably 15th-century, consisting of an octagonal basin the sides of which are decorated with deeply-carved panels with tracery frames around varied symbols (heads, floral, etc.), the panels set between mouldings at top and bottom; graded underbowl chamfer with symbols and motifs at the angles, one of them actually a human figure lying down, the others now head-less angels; the octagonal stem is open-work decorated with Ogee windows; the octagonal splaying lower base has very worn motifs at the angles, probably floral rather than figural; narrow octagonal plinth, appears modern. The font is raised on a platform decorated with the colourful tiles that adorn the floor of this part of the church.
