Hussey (1852) notes "a stoup in the north porch, in good preservation, with a cypher, W, surmounted by a crown, on a shield beneath it" [NB: unlikely that the royal symbol would refer to either William I (1066+) or William II (1087+) considering the form in which is represented -- perhaps a later prince of that name? -- also, since the symbol appears below the stoup, it may not necssarily help in dating the stoup itself]. [NB: Hussey uses 'Thornham' but gives 'Turnahem' as the entry in Domesday Book. The Topographical Dictionary of 1831 notes that 'Thornham' is the "old spelling"]. [cf. Index entry for Thurnham No. 1 for a baptismal font listed for this church]
