The Ecclesiastical and Architectural Topography of England: Oxfordshire (1850) notes: "the font N[orman], large and plain." Tub-shaped basin on a short circular lower base; flat wooden cover; new lead lining. The Victoria County History (Oxford, vol. 9, 1969) notes: "The chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, Balscott, [...] appears to have been rebuilt in the early 14th century, but retains a tub-shaped font and part of a tympanum, both of which may be late-12th-century." Noted in Sherwood & Pevsner (1974): "Font. Norman, tub-shaped, with a moulded base."
