Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: square bowl with angles cut off, circular stem with four small octagonal shafts having square moulded capitals and bases, c. 1200, much repaired." The Parish website [http://www.stmarysmaldon.org.uk/mundon.html] [accessed 16 July 2010] notes: "the font (now removed) has been dated to c. 1200". [NB: present whereabouts of this font unknown to BSI, but a tour of the church written by Christine McDonald in 2003 for the "Maldon and Burnham Standard, and reproduced in the Parish website [ibid.] informs: "Within the information compiled for visitors to peruse, is an article that includes the statement that a font from St Mary’s Mundon dating back to 1200 is now sited in another local church (thought to be Latchingdon)"]
