Font Notes:
Livesey (1931) [in 'Basildon History' [www.basildon.com/history/churches/smaas2.html]], who was rector at Langdon Hills St. Mary & All Angels' noted: "The font came originally from Bulphan Church; it was given by the Rector to Langdon Hills about 38 years ago [i.e., ca. 1893?]. For several years this was in use in the new Church [i.e., Langdon Hills' new church]. Its date is uncertain, possibly 15th century; the bowl is octagonal with moulded upper and lower edge, having trefoil headed panels in each face and on stem, with moulded base. The cover is of solid oak turned; the handle represents an acorn. The step consists of unusual shaped old bricks." [NB: we have an unconfirmed source that has a Rev. Littlehales of Bulphan removing the Bulphan font to a site in the churchyard near the lychgate]. [NB: this same source (ibid.) notes the existence of a second font -- cf. Index entry for Langdon Hills No. 2]. [NB: the font in the Lady Chapel of the the new church is modern, with a modern wooden cover]
