Font Notes:
The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) does not mention a font [NB: the RCHM does not list post-1714 materials], but the church has an octagonal font of late date in the nave [NB: this modern font appears to have been moved to Chappel St Barnabas in 1952, according to the Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 10, 2001) -- we have no information on the ancient font of the original 12th-century church]. The SEAX-EssexArchives Online database [http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/result_details.asp?DocID=26954] [accessed 13 July 2010] has a baptism register for 1813-1857 [ref. D/P 134/1/7] with "At front: note of gift of new font by Revd Charles Dalton to commemorate his fiftieth year in parish, July 1854" [NB: was this the font moved to Chappel?]
