There are two entries for Hatfield [Peverel] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL7811/hatfield-peverel/] [accessed 9 November 2018] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) notes: "Stoup: adjoining N. doorway--with septfoiled head and broken basin, 15th-century." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TL7970111017] notes: "Parish church. C12, altered in C13 and C15, much restored in C19. Flint and pebble rubble with limestone and clunch dressings and some brickwork, roofs tiled. Formerly part of a Benedictine Priory of St. Albans Abbey, dissolved in 1536. The former Nave became the present Nave and Chancel, with a fragment of the former central tower to the E, both early C12. N aisle added in late C13, rebuilt in C15. S vestry late C16. S aisle c.1820. Major restoration in C19"; it mentions no font in it, but does report the old stoup: "Immediately E of the N doorway there is a stoup with septfoiled head and broken basin, C15." [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to the 12th century, and there is a modern [post-1714] font located in the west end of the north aisle, but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
