Although the original fabric of the church is Norman, St. Helen's was "cleverly reconstructed", as Betjeman's 1958 Guide terms it, in 1865 [NB: we have no information on the original font of this church or its whereabouts]; this is the likely date of the 'neo-Perpendicular' font now in use at this church: octagonal basin decorated with a large square quatrefoil window on each panel, raised on an octagonal pedestal decorated with tall trefoil windows and mouldings.
