Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Stoup: In nave--externally in wall W. of N. doorway, part of a rough basin hollowed out of the front of the jamb." A modern square Victorian font stands at the west end of the nave, just inside the south door. Bettley & Pevsner (2007) identify this modern font as having been introduced in Frederic Chancellor's renovation of the 1870s. [NB: the RCHM does not report an early font in this chiefly Norman church; we have no information on the medieval font]
