There are three entries for this Fyfield in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL5706/fyfield/] [accessed 1 June 2015], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. A stoup here is noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Stoup: In N. aisle--E. of N. doorway, with re-used trefoiled-head from window, 14th-century, no basin." The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 4, 1956) notes: "The nave was built in the 12th century. [...] The south doorway has 14th-century splays and the stoup on the north side has a 14thcentury trefoiled head, probably taken from a window."
