Font Notes:
Noted with an illustration in Hernández Socorro (2005) as the old baptismal font from the Basílica del Pino in Teror; the font consists of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a double moulding at the upper side and having still remains of paint on its surface; it is raised on half of the stem, the lower half and the lower base being both a modern replacement; the wooden font cover is domed-shaped, practically hemispherical, the sides decorated with ribbed pattern and the finial a gilded wooden image of St. John the Baptist; it appears to be dated to 1760 in the source (ibid.) and to be of the rim-buffet type which opens partially sideways for access to the holy water therein. The same source [cf. supra] informs that the marble font now in use [not listed in this Index] was acquired ca. 1770 from either Genoa, Marseille or Cadiz, and adds that it has a similar circumference to the old one [thus allowing for the cover to be used on either font?]
