Font Notes:
Reported in Barrett (1893) as a disused font in the porch of the church. Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: In S. porch--disused, with plain hexagonal bowl, buttressed and panelled stem and moulded base, 15th-century." Bettley & Pevsner (2007) report a 15th-century font still in the south porch. The present font in use in the nave of the church is modern, consisting of an octagonal basin with inscribed symbols in shields on the sides, raised on an octagonal pedestal base decorated with tracery and buttresses; octagonal cover tapering to Latin-cross finial.
