Both font and cover are noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal, with plain bowl, stem panelled on five sides, and apparently unfinished, moulded base, 15th-century. Cover: pyramidal, with moulded ribs, 17th-century." The British Listed Buildings database [http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-114129-parish-church-of-st-lawrence-ridgewell] [accessed 21 July 2010] notes: "The font is octagonal with plain bowl, stem panelled on 5 sides, the others plain, with moulded base, C15." Bettley & Pevsner (2007), however, write: "Font. Octagonal. C14 stem with fluerons in panels. Bowl 2003, carved by John Green." The SEAX database of Essex County Council [http://unlockingessex.essexcc.gov.uk] [accessed 21 July 2010] quotes the RCHM [cf. supra]. The Essex Heritage Trust, however, approved a £846 grant in 2001 listed under "St Laurence Church, Ridgewell, Conservation of font", which may indicate some major work on the font at the time. [cf.
