There are five entries for Arkesden [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TL4834/arkesden/] [accessed 24 September 2018], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) notes and illustrates the font here, an "undistiguished example of the 13th century", though later in the same source it is described thus: "square tapering bowl of limestone, with beaded edge at the top, possibly 12th-century; square hollow pedestal of clunch, each side pierced with a small moulded and pointed opening, in the middle, small circular shaft, 13th-century." Bettley & Pevsner (2007) date the basin to the possibly the 12th century, and the base to the 13th century.
