Noted with an illustration in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: of white veined marble, circular moulded and fluted bowl, baluster stem [...], inscription round rim, 'Hoc Baptisterium una cum serico mensæ sacræ ac pulpity velamento pie obtulit Fran. Eyles Alderm. Lond. A.D. MDCCXIV.'" The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 6, 1973) notes: "At a date between 1103 and 1130 a member of the Tony family gave Walthamstow church with all its tithe to St. Peter of Châtillon by Conches (Eure, France). [...] The church of St. Mary, which bore that dedication by c. 1147, [...] was partly rebuilt in the 16th century and extensively altered, restored, and enlarged from the 18th century onwards. [...] the oldest surviving work in the present building appears to date from the 13th century. [...] The white veined marble font, a fluted bowl on a baluster stem, was given in 1714." The VCH (ibid.) further notes "a stoup on the north wall of the south porch", but gives no date for it. All other churches noted in the VCH entry for this parish are modern. In Pevsner (1976): "Font. Fluted bowl on baluster stem, white marble, 1714." [NB: we have no information on the original font of the medieval church here].
