There is an entry for Torrington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM0919/thorrington/] [accessed 24 June 2025]; it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl with panelled sides, three with instruments of the passion, others with pomegranate and flower, buttressed stem with trefoil-headed panels, moulded base, early 16th-century." In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Octagonal, Perp[endicular]. Stem with buttresses and tracery panels, bowl with leaves and shields."
