Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl, faces with plain shields in star-shaped panels, panelled and cusped stem, 15th-century, moulded base, with spur ornaments, 12th-century." In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Octagonal, Perp[endicular]; the sides have star-shaped panels with shields."
