Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: square bowl with five shallow pointed panels on each side, 13th-century, stam, base and half the bowl modern." In Pevsner (1976: "Font. C13, of the Purbeck type, with five pointed shallow arcades on each side." [NB: by "the Purbeck type" Pevsner means that the font is square, table-top, on a single or multiple support, and not necessarily made of 'Purbeck marble']. Bettley & Pevsner (2007) adds: "Base probably 1869".
