There is an entry for this Bramfield [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TM3973/bramfield/] [accessed 21 September 2016]; it mentions a church and church lands in it. A font here is noted in Suckling (1846-1848): "A good font of stone occupies its ancient position near the west end of the nave." The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: TM3989973797] (196) notes: "Octagonal font, heavily restored C19." Illustrated in Knott [www.suffolkchurches.co.uk/bramfield.htm]: octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with quatrefoils inscribed in circles between two bands of crenellation; mouldings on the upper end of the eight attached colonnettes of the base form the underbowl; two rows of cinquefoil arches up-and-dwon the sides of the stem; bases of the colonettes also moulded; plain octagonal plinth. Flat octagonal wooden cover with metal decoration and ring handle.
