Font Notes:
There are seven entries for Ramsden [Bellhouse and Crays] [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/ramsden-bellhouse-and-crays/], one of which reports "1 church. 0.25 church lands" in it. The entry for this church in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) notes: "Font: octagonal stem and moulded base, 15th-century, bowl and part of base modern. Font cover: of wood with eight voluted supports to turned middle-post, late 17th or early 18th-century." Only the font cover is noted in Pevsner (1976): "Font cover, c.1700". Neither font nor cover mentioned in Bettley & Pevsner (2007). The short history by Len Ferris [www.ramsdenbellhouse.info/history/article_2.html] [accessed 12 December 2019] notes: "The Font is of traditional octagonal design, and has a 19th Century bowl on a much earlier stem and base which are the inverted originals. The font cover is a modern replacement (1975) and has ironwork in the shape of a lotus flower on its top."
