There are seven entries for Maldon in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/] [accessed 6 October 2016], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) notes: "Font: octagonal, moulded and reeded bowl, late 17th or early 18th-century, crude tapering stem." In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Perp[endicular] stem with bowl of c.1700". [NB: curiously enough the font at Maldon All Saints' -now at St. Albans St. Saviours' has exactly the reverse composition: Perpendicular (?) basin on a 17th-century stem; where they complementary?]
