Noted in Wilton-Hall (1910): "The font came from All Saints' Church, Malden [sic], Co. Essex, 1896. The bowl is 15th-century work, the stem late 17th- or early 18th-century, and the cover belongs to the 18th century." This same source notes that "the font and the font cover were restored by Mr. G. Haynes in memory of Captain A.E. Haynes, R.E., who fell in action at Makinos Kraal, Mashona Land, in 1896." Noted in Pevsner & Cherry (1977): "Font. C15, from Maldon, Essex." The BeenThere-DoneThat, The Unofficial Guide to Britain site [www.beenthere-donethat.org.uk/essex/maldon21big.html] notes the presence of a copy of this font made in 1866 now in the west end, by the entrance to the tower, at Maldon All Saints'.
