Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal, one face of the bowl with octofoiled panel enclosing a shield of the arms of Pyrton, moulded under-edge, carved with plain shields and rosettes alternately, plain stem and moulded base, c. 1500." In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Octagonal, plain, with one shield on the E front (Pyrton arms)." The RCHM (ibid.) further notes a recess for a holy-water stoup with a broken bowl, date uncertain [no separate entry in this Index]
