Reported in Suckling (1846-1848): "an excellent font of stone having the eight panels of its sides filled with shields and rosettes". Parker (1855) quotes Rickman in his description of this font: "a good font, of either D[ecorated] or early P[erpendicular] character", and then gives his own: "Font, very good D[ecorated]; an octagon, with clustered shafts around the pedestal, and panelling in the bowl." [NB: a Norman dragon carved on the inner doorway indicates this church goes back to that period, but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
