Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl, each face with two panels with pointed heads, late 12th-century, stem and base modern." Listed in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble; "stem and base modern". In Pevsner (1976): "Font. Octagonal, of Purbeck marble, of the usual type with two shallow blank pointed arches to each side, early C13." Bettley & Pevsner (2007) note three fonts in this church: "the oldest early C13, octagonal, of Purbeck marble. Of the usual type [...]"; the other two fonts are reported as modern: "Movable Coade stone font, 1821", and a "third given in 1873". The Harwich Society website [http://www.harwich-society.co.uk/old/info_stnics.htm] [accessed 8 July 2010] reports that the old Purbeck marble basin was "was retrieved from the churchyard in 1876 and reinstated in the church".
