Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl with moulded upper and lower edges, panelled sides, four with quatrefoils enclosing blank shields, two with roses, the others with a pair of feathers and heart respectively, each with a scroll, buttressed stem, 15th-century, lower part of stem and the base modern." In Pevsner (1976): "Font. Octagonal, Perp[endicular], bowl with panels filled by shields in quatrefoils or rosettes." Bettley & Pevsner (2007) add "a heart, and feathers" to the previous edition's description.
