The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) notes: "Font: square bowl, each face with five round-headed panels, moulded lower edge, moulded base of Purbeck marble, late 12th-century, stem modern." In Pevsner (1976): "Font. Plain C12, of Purbeck marble, on five shafts." With much the same description in Bettley & Pevsner (2007) who add the square shape of the basin. The RCHM (ibid.) notes a 14th-century holy-water stoup "with reused trefoiled head" in the south porch [no separate entry in Index]. Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble: "bowl with panels on each face; the stem is modern" [source given: RCHM (NE), 1922). The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TM1878227318] notes: "Parish church. C12, C14 and C18, restored in Cl9 [...] The C12 font, of Purbeck marble, has a tapering square bowl, each face with 5 round-headed panels, a moulded lower edge, the stem and angle-shafts renewed." Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble: "bowl with panels on each face; the stem is modern" [source given: RCHM (NE), 1922].
