Baptismal font noted with an illustration in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "octagonal bowl with moulded edges and traceried panels of various designs, square stem with attached shaft at each angle, moulded base, mid 14th-century." In Pevsner (1976) and Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Octagonal, C14, with cusped panels of tracery (intersected and other), quatrefoils, etc." [NB: the font apears to me a composite object, with a mis-matched square base to the octagonal basin and octagonal plinth]. Wooden cover consisting of flat octagonal platform, with square raised shape with converging ribs; odd piece.
