Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl, each face with a quatrefoil enclosing a rose, moulded underside with carved flowers, stem with sunk panels with cinquefoil heads, traces of colour and gilding, lat 15th-century." In Pevsner (1976) and Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Perp[endicular], octagonal, with traceried stem and, on the bowl, quatrefoils with roses." The Brightlingsea Town site [www.brightlingsea-town.co.uk] reports "traces of the original paintwork" on the font.
