Baptismal font noted with an illustration in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "bowl of limestone, originally square with small cheveron ornament round top, 12th-century, bowl cut octagonal, early in the 16th century; stem of brick with moulded top and base, and sunk quatrefoil in each face, early 16th-century.. Cover of oak, pyramidal, with panelled sides and ball top, 17th-century, bracket for pulley on framing of bell-turret above." Only the lid is noted in Pevsner (1976): "Font cover. Octagonal with panelled sides and ball top; C17." The SEAX SMR database (#8677) has: "font originally was square, C12, recut octagonal in early C16 with early C16 brick stem (photo in RCHM)." Bettley & Pevsner (2007) include the details recorded in the RCHM to Pevsner's entry in the previous edition [cf. supra].
