Noted in the Royal Commission of Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font; octagonal bowl, two sides plain, the rest with sunk panels, two panels enclosing saltires, and four panels cusped and enclosing plain shields, etc. 15th-century." In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Octagonal, with sunk panels decorated by saltire crosses, shields, etc." [NB: the font looks suspiciously sharp; is it a re-cut, or a 19th-century replacement? - the base is certainly modern, as is the octagonal wooden cover]
