Noted in Ghislain (1986) as the fragment of a Mosan font originally from the castle that was under siege in 1188, which would explain the destruction of the font and set the deadline for the dating of the font ["le fragment de Bouvignes provient du château qui fuit assiégé en 1188 [...], ce qui expliquerait la destruction des fonts et pourrait constituer un terminus ante quem."] Catalogued and illustrated in Ghislain (2009) as three fragments of a baptismal font of the Namurois group, filiation de Saint-Séverin-en-Condroz, made of limestone (calcaire de Meuse) ca. 1155-1160, thought to have existed in the "chapelle castrale Sainte-Catherine" of Bouvignes castle; the castle was burned down after a siege by Baudouiin V, count of Hainaut, in 1188; the three fragments, one whole human face with a portion of what appears to be a wing attached to it, one partial human face, and one hand holding something that could be a scroll, is all that is left of the font that Ghislain (ibid.) describes as matching the category of those at Hanzinne, Gentinnes and the one known as Merksem, at the M.R.A.H. Ghislain (ibid.) suggests that the high polish and conservation of the fragments are witnesses of the newness of the font right before its destruction, perhaps in 1188.
