There are two entries for Hartshorne [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK3221/hartshorne/] [accessed 7 January 2016], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Pevsner (1978) writes: "Font. Octagonal, tapering, plain, probably C14." English Heritage [Listing NGR: SK3273020835] (1967) reports a "Plain tapering octagonal font, probably C14" here. The Hartshorne St Peter's guide [http://hartshornechurch.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/History-of-St-Peter’s-Church-Hartshorne.pdf] [accessed 7 January 2016] reports the 14th-century font being moved around in the re-built church of 1835. The font appears monolithic, of two volumes: the tall tapering volume and a short slightly wider lower base, all octagonal; the upper rim of the basin has a prominent moulding and the upper surface shows evidence of metal plugs, probably from an old cover; the parish contact informs that there is no cover in use at present; there is a second moulding below the one mentioned, otherwise the rest of the font is plain. The inner basin is roughly cylindrical in shape and has a central drain; no lining.
