Font Notes:
There are two entries for this Eckington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SK4279/eckington/] [accessed 8 October 2014], one of which, in the lordship of Ralph son of Hubert in 1086, reports a priest in it without mention of a church, though there probably was one there. Cox (1875) notes: "The font, under the west gallery, which has an octagon top standing upon a circular base, seems to be of modern construction." Miller (1890) notes "Norman work" in this church, but mentions no font in it. [NB: the building dates from ca. 1100 but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
