Noted and illustrated in the Parish web site [www.st-remigius-duesseldorf.de] and in the Kirche des Monats site [www.kirche-des-monats.de]. The font is described and illustrated in Marina Alice Mutz [http://www.zeitspurensuche.de/02/hakirce2.htm] [accessed 20 August 2025]: The baptismal font in St. Remigius Church in Düsseldorf-Wittlaer is similar to the one depicted in Harro Vollmar's drawing ; the heads also bear the greatest resemblance to the one surviving from the font of Haan The baptismal font at St Remigius is dated to the 13th century and measures: max. height approx. 1.05 m, max. width 1.20 m, max. depth 1.20 m. The octagonal basin sides are decorated with blind panels, and four heads protrude from the corners; it rests on a central pillar and four corner pillars: "Das Taufbecken in der St. Remigius-Kirche in Düsseldorf-Wittlaer ähnelt der Rekonstruktions-Zeichnung von Harro Vollmar; auch die Köpfe weisen die größte Ähnlichkeiten mit dem Haaner Steinkopf auf, sind allerdings kleiner. Der Taufstein wird auf das 13. Jh. datiert, der Bildhauer ist unbekannt. Die Maße: max. Höhe ca. 1,05 m, max. Breite 1,20 m, max. Tiefe 1,20 m. Das achtseitige Becken in der Kirche St. Remigius "... ruht auf einer Mittel- und vier Ecksäulen. Die Seiten sind mit Blenden verziert, und aus den Ecken springen vier Köpfe hervor."
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 27 March 2026) informs: "It should be noted that during the restoration of the baptismal font in 1996, it was found that the limestone (only) of the basin is not “Namurer Blaustein” but “Aachener Blaustein”. This confirms the theory by Ghislain : almost all these baptismal fonts in Germany are not made in Belgium, but at local German workshops. The German art historian aus’m Weerth has made many drawings of German baptismal fonts in the 19th century. Somewhere on Internet is an inventory of his drawings. I do not remember where I found the one of Wittlaer. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_aus'_Weerth. The font is also described in:
Paul Clemen, Die Kunstdenkmäler der Rheinprovinz, Dritter Band, Die Kunstdenkmäler der Stadt und des Kreises Düsseldorf, 1894, page 165
Friedrich Scheiermann, Rheinische Kunststätten, Volume 185, Düsseldorf-Wittlaer, 1976, ISBN-13: 9783880941618
Magdalena Kraemer-Noble, RK-Heft Nr. 185, St. Remigius in Düsseldorf-Wittlaer. 3. neu bearb. Aufl., 2000, ISBN 3-88094-864-X."
