The font here is noted in Kroesen & Steensma (2004) as a baptismal font of the mid to late thirteenth century made of Baumberg sandstone, "where the pedestal with Attic profile and the rim of palmettes indicate influence from Freckenhorst, which is only 20 km away. The eight figures are more static than those at Nesse a to a certain extent form part of a scene: the Baptism of Christ with an angel and Simeon, Gabriel and the Virgin, the patron saint St. Pancratius, and Synagogue and Ecclesia. The symbolism of church and synagogue is rather unusual for a baptismal font." Described and illustrated in Bewermeier & Kößmeier (2007), who remark on the figural similarities with the font at Boke. On-site notes: round basin of roughly cylindrical shape; arcade of eight round arches supported on columns with capitals and bases; the font bears two sets of inscriptions: one that runs around the upper basin side, at the rim, just above the band of palmette motif, and another set that labels each of the arches of the font sides just above the arch (GABRIEL, S[an]C[t]A MARIA, ECCLESIA, SYNAGOG[i]A, ANGELVS, IHS XPS, SIMEON, [?] PANCAACIVS) identifying the figures in the arches [NB: while the angel holding garments on the left of the Baptism of Christ scene can well ber integrated in it, the presence of Simeon in this particular spot, just to the right of the Baptism scene is more difficult to explain]; the inner basin is lined, the liner cemented to the inner side. The metal font cover, in the shape of a low cone, has symbols of the four Evangelists on it and a foliated finial; it appears modern.
