The Gentleman's Magazine (issue for July 1842, p. 79) reports the consecration on 31 March 1842 of "the new church of the Holy Trinity, Shaftesbury" and its "stone font by the Countess Grosvenor". The 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874) entry for Shaftesbury Holy Trinity's does not mention the baptismal font, but does include an illustration: it consists of an octagonal basin raised on an octagonal pedestal base; the panels of both basin and stem are decorated with pairs of trefoil arches or windows; the underbowl chamfer has graded moulding; the lower base is also octagonal and plain but for a couple of mouldings. [NB: this font looks suspiciously similar to the one at Shaftesbury St. Peter's -- did Hutchins use the wrong illustration? -- to be resolved]
