The clerestory above, with its windows, is 15th century; yet the tracery of the west window is Perpendicular, from the 14th. The roof and plastered ceiling is by local joiners Smith, Dale and Sandy in 1818 and the pews by A N Prentice in 1907."

Font Notes:
There are five entries for Witham [on the Hill] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TF0516/witham-on-the-hill/] [accessed 29 January 2018], one of which, lorded in 1066 by Ulf (Fenman), and by Berewold; Gilbert of Ghent in 1086, reports a church in it. Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) write: "Font. Octagonal, with flatly carved leaf, zigzag, etc.; also a patriarchal cross. Is it C17?". The present font in use in this church consists of an octagonal basin with symbols and motifs on the panels, and a moulded base on a three-step plinth; the base and the plinth are modern; the basin said to be mid-17th century, 1660s. Tall elaborate 19th-century openwork wooden cover.
