Font Notes:
Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla-La Mancha: Guadalajara (2009) as a 13th-century baptismal font originally from Villaescusa de Palositos, decorated with a pattern common in this region: moulded rim with a ribbed pattern topped with round arch-heads, although in this case the ribs have a slight diagonal slant; on a plain squat base. The Enciclopedia… (ibid.) relates this font to [among others -- cf. infra] those at nearby Cereceda and Salmerón, though they vary in size. The font is originally from the parish church of Villaescusa de Palositos, but was moved to the Parroquia del Santísimo Sacramento in Guadalajara capital. The original church, dedicated to the Assumption of St. Mary, was selected by the Bishopric of Sigüenza for restoration, but work stopped half way through and now the church is practically in ruins. The Enciclopedia… notes similarities with the fonts at Brihuega (S. Felipe), Cereceda and Gascueña de Bornova, also in Guadalajara province [cf. Index entries]
