There is an entry for Swyre [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SY5288/swyre/] [accessed 10 February 2020] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/swyre.htm] illustrates the font and cover; the font consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with varied quatrefoil motiefs; graded underbowl chamfer; plain octagonal stem on moulded lower base, also octagonal; wooden cover of the four-ribs-around-a-pivot type; looks modern. [NB: the font appears too sharp to be 15th-century as claimed [cf. infra]; has it been re-cut?]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SY5280588237] notes: "Parish Church. C15 west tower and chancel-arch. Nave and chancel rebuilt in 1843. Vestry and organ-chamber added in 1885. [...] Font, stone octagonal bowl with quatrefoils-in-circles. Octagonal stem and base, C15." [NB: one source reports the first recorded rector in this church in 1297 but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
