Noted in the revised Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874) as a modern font. The OPC Dorset [www.opcdorset.org/StourFiles/Stourpaine/Stourpaine.htm] [accessed 16 September 2011] reports: "the ancient font 'disappeared'" in the 19th-century renovation of the church. The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/stourpaine.htm] notes: "During the restoration (1858), the ancient font disappeared and had to be replaced with a 'new' one". [NB: this same source informs of the existence of a church building here since at least 1190 but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to Robin Adeney and The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [www.dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk], for the photograph of the modern font font
