Font Notes:
There is an entry for Shipton [Gorge] [variant spelling] in the Donmesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SY4991/shipton-gorge/] [accessed 29 November 2017], but it mentions neither priest nor church in it. A font here is noted in the 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874): "The original font is preserved, and has on the bowl a sunk arcade of pointed arches." In Newman & Pevsner (1972): "Font. Heptagonal, with blank arches, early C14." The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/shipton_gorge.htm] notes this font as 'early 14C". Described and illustrated in Gerald Duke [www.martinstown.co.uk].
